Project Manager resume keywords and example
Project manager postings lean on planning vocabulary (scope, schedule, budget, risk) and on the method and tool you ran it with. Certifications such as the PMP are often searched by exact name. Below are the keywords that recur, a sample summary, skills grouped by type, and example bullets from entry level to senior.

Example resume bullets by seniority
Illustrative examples: the companies, numbers and outcomes are made up to show the structure (action, scope, tool, result). Use your own real figures.
Entry level
- Coordinated a 6-person office relocation plan in Smartsheet, tracking 80 tasks across IT, facilities and vendors and finishing within the approved budget.
- Wrote weekly status reports for a website redesign and logged risks in Jira, giving the sponsor a single view of schedule and open issues.
Mid level
- Led a 9-person Scrum team through a billing-system upgrade, managing a $900K budget and delivering 3 weeks ahead of the original date.
- Introduced change control for a vendor-built integration, rejecting 7 out-of-scope requests and holding the budget to within 4% of plan.
Senior
- Managed a portfolio of 5 concurrent projects worth $6M, setting prioritization criteria with executives and reallocating resources monthly.
- Built the PMO's risk register and stage-gate review process, adopted by 12 project managers and used in every quarterly business review.
Gaps candidates miss most
- The methodology by name (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, hybrid) instead of just "project management"
- Budget size, team size and timeline on at least your most recent role
- The certification by its exact name (PMP, PRINCE2, CSM) if you hold it
Common project manager resume mistakes
- "Managed projects" with no scope, budget, team size or outcome attached.
- Listing every tool you've opened instead of the ones you ran projects in.
- Describing meetings and reports without saying what decision or result they produced.
- Leaving out risk management when the posting names it.
- Hiding the certification at the bottom when recruiters search for it by name.
